Hi, friends! It's been awhile, hasn't it?
Thanks for sticking around . . . I'm super excited to announce that my second chapbook, Kettle Whistles the Blues, is now available for pre-order from Robocup Press. Here's how three writers I admire described the book, which is illustrated by my cousin, Johna: "With this delicate voice steeped in tea rituals, Kayla Pongrac offers proof that a tiptoe’s tread can be louder than a stomp." -Alina Stefanescu, author of Objects in Vases "Kettle Whistles the Blues is a study of melancholy. Yet, driven by Kayla Pongrac’s minimalistic, captivating tone and J.P. Baroni’s loose, inviting sketches, Kettle hints at the benefits of quietude too often overlooked or dismissed by our culture at large. Pongrac affirms that to be alone is not always to be lonely—that to “sip and enjoy” a simple cup of tea is to do more than meets the eye. It is a defense of unhurried contemplation, and of the examined life." -Catherine Kyle, author of Feral Domesticity and Gamer: A Role-Playing Poem "In Kettle Whistles the Blues, Kayla Pongrac describes the solitary ritual of drinking tea alone. The book’s eleven short texts, referred to as 'steps' rather than poems, offer a formula for solitude: the perfect recipe for loneliness. Pongrac does not reveal whether her protagonist’s loneliness is voluntary, and this is what gives Kettle Whistles the Blues its mysterious charm. It can be read as an ode, a wish, a protest, or a sigh." –Nadia de Vries, author of First Communion and R.I.P. Nadia de Vries This chapbook would make a great Christmas gift (just sayin'!), so if you're interested in ordering a copy, please click on this link and use coupon code NEWTITLESFALL2016 for $3 off! If you get a chance, do check out U's book, published at the end of last year and on sale now! Happy 2016, everyone! P.S. I now have signed, First Edition copies of The Flexible Truth available for sale for $15 in my webstore! Woo! So 2015 was a big year for me: my playing cards project, Playing Cards/Cards Playing, was released at the end of 2014/beginning of 2015. My talented artist friend, Shayna Blackford, did an amazing job creating artwork for the (fully functional!) deck, and the decks were well-received by those who purchased them.
With April came the release of my debut chapbook, The Flexible Truth. I am grateful to Anchor and Plume for publishing it and for helping to sell out the First Edition. I’m so proud of this book and couldn’t be happier with the final product. Then, in August, I launched a brand new project: an artist collective called A Permanent Income. This collective brought together nine artists from around the world to create a limited edition compilation that comes in CD form. Our first theme was “Frozen," so each artist took that theme and ran with it, creating a piece of art in their chosen genre (music, art, writing). The results came out even better than I had even anticipated. To celebrate the release of these projects, I’d like to offer lit lovers an opportunity to purchase all three projects for a discounted rate. For only $40, you’ll receive:
As always, thanks for reading and thanks for your support! Click here to purchase this limited edition bundle. Are you looking for a unique gift for a family member, friend, or co-worker? Look no further!
Playing Cards/Cards Playing, a fully functional deck of playing cards created by me and my good friend Shayna Blackford, are now ON SALE in my webstore. The price has been slashed from $20 to $12! Woah! Please also consider supporting a group of artists known collectively as A Permanent Income. Our first compilation, Frozen, has also been reduced in price as well, and we would definitely appreciate your support. All prices include tax and shipping. All U.S. orders will come with a tracking number. Please contact me with any questions. Happy holidays to you and yours! :) I'm pleased to announce that I have a flash fiction piece featured in the forthcoming The Conium Review: Vol. 4. This press has been absolutely wonderful to me, so I hope you will consider pre-ordering a copy of this issue. It's going to be pretty stellar :)
P.S. The Vol. 4 Collector's Edition will soon be made available, too! A big THANK YOU to Kelsey Dean for this well-written and thoughtful review of my debut chapbook, The Flexible Truth. I so appreciate Kelsey's in-depth commentary and the many kind things she had to say! Special thanks to Monologging for their support as well! Read Kelsey's full review here.
Check out my first blurb for a fellow writer! Many thanks to Uzodinma Okehi for reaching out . . . Pre-order Uzodinma's book here! It's on sale for $12.95. Your purchase supports a great press and a super talented writer! :)
